Dragon Hunt

Ronan had a sword and the sword needed a handle.
While making a handle a story was told.

Do you know that knights carry swords? Stories of old will tell us that Knights have swords to fight off Dragons that are trying to steal the Princesses from the castles…..

Then the following took place.

A dragon was drawn by the children using the “Witch on a Broom” story as a guide. The dragon was placed on the fence and the knights were to find the dragon and slay it.
We decided to go on a Dragon Hunt in the paddock.
Out we ventured into the unknown, staying as group as there is strength in numbers. The knights led the hunt and many dragons were found. Some children became dragons and through the paddock they roamed, breathing fire on those who dare disturb. When tired from our adventure we retired to the safety of Country Kids and put our swords away for another day.

The learning that took place:
Imagination, working as a team, telling stories and acting out these with props, listening, having courage and knowing you are safe and having loads of fun!

Flower house

Today we read all about ‘The Three little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig’. The wolves got so fed up with the pig puffing, huffing and blowing up their houses that they tried a different tack. They build a beautiful scented house of flowers. The pig took an almighty sniff and loved the smell so much that he became the big, good pig. He danced the ‘Tantarella’ and they all became friends…..

Fun at Country Kids

Every Friday Lee Corlett leads a session of fun physical activities with our children.

PMP is a Perceptual Motor Programme. It is the basis of all fundamental movement. Lee says that his programme is a fundamental fun programme for children that involves all major body movement and fine motor movement. The more physically capable a child is the more successful that child will be in the class room when the child enters school.(click on the image to enlarge it)

Paddock walk

Wow! What a great paddock walk we had the other day! We found lots of interesting things and did lots of exploring. Paddock walks fit in with our philosophy where we like to take advantage of our natural rural environment to give our children the opportunity to see nature first hand.

Our children came back from the holidays buzzing about their holidays experiences, mainly about the beach and camping. To share these experiences we had a group discussion about what we take to the beach and camping.The children came up with some knowledgeable ideas. Also discussed were shells found on the beach and creatures of the ocean.

We extend this knowledge through providing a sensory ocean in the water trough. We also created large sea creatures, an angle fish, jelly fish and a dolphin through different art mediums. we are in the process of creating a beach theme.

Blackenbrook Vineyard Fundraiser

Once again the Blackenbrook Vineyard fundraiser was a huge success for us.
A huge thank you to Ursula and Daniel for their generosity and kindness in doing this for us. Their generous donation of $375 to Country Kids is hugely valued and will be put to good use.
I am sure that there will be lots of great suggestions on how this money can be spent for the benefit of our children!
