Today the Peace Tree walkers came to visit us. They aim to promote an awareness about the importance of trees to the environment. This is the fourth year they have done the walk but the first time through our area and to Country Kids. They left the Mountain Valley Centre last weekend and will walk and camp, loaded with musical instruments, peace ribbons and Native trees, all the way through Upper Moutere, Mahana and as far as Wakefield.
They entertained us by playing music and singing some songs before giving us some native trees and helping to plant them. The group plans to plant 700 trees this year during their two week walk.
